Coffee Fueled Morning with DEVO

Posted in Musings, Music on May 11th, 2007 by Augiewan

It’s amazing what difference 15 minutes and hot cup of coffee can make in the morning. I normally set my coffee maker at night to make me my sweet nectar of life in the morning, but failed to last night. When I realized that I was still in bed and my ride would be showing up in 5 minutes, the harsh reality set in that I would be waiting until I got to work before I could enjoy my first cup. So here I am. 20 minutes ago I could barely get the key in my office door without falling over and now I’m a happy little hyper worker bee…

So here I sit, listening to DEVO. Yes, I recently realized that ALL of my DEVO music was on LP, and since my turntable has been unusable for years, I haven’t listened to them in a while. I immediately turned to Amazon and purchased their first 6 albums.

I know that most of you probably only know of their song “Whip It” if you’ve heard of them at all. Most folks who do know of them see them as a one-hit wonder band from the 80’s. They’ve actually been playing their wonderfully enigmatic music since the mid 70’s. They were well ahead of their time and it’s a crime that they never had more monetary success. Many bands have recognized how great their songs are and have covered some such as Nirvana (Turn Around) and Soundgarden (A Girl You Want).

Where am I going with this? I don’t know! Like I said, I’m on a bit of a caffeine buzz right now…

A Stab at “realistic” with my Copic Markers

Posted in Copic Markers on May 9th, 2007 by Augiewan

I tend to draw in a comic/cartoon style most of the time. I feel more free to draw that way because of not being bound strictly to the rules of physics or anatomy. half the stuff I draw in the comic world doesn’t even exist in the real world, so there no chance of drawing it wrong. I like that. It’s safe.

But I do like pushing myself at times, so the other night I took a shot at a more realistic illustration of a female from a photo reference. It (of course) was done using my new love, Copic Sketch Markers.

Please let me know what you think! Should I keep exploring this aspect or should I stick with Comic style?

What Are You Looking At?

Posted in Rambling, Music on May 4th, 2007 by Augiewan

NOTE: As I work on the transition from my old site design to this one, there will likely be new visitors coming in looking for a few specific things such as Invader Zim images or music by They Might Be Giants or Milla that are no-where to be found yet. I’m still trying to figure exactly how/if I want to integrate that content. If you’d like to keep up on that stuff, feel free to sign up for notices. Making Progress

Posted in Rambling on May 4th, 2007 by Augiewan

I’ve made some progress just getting WordPress set up and really like how many plug-ins and widgets are available. My personal sites have always been build by hand and I’m not use to relying so much on a pre-designed system, it’s been a challenge to just let go and not freak out that I can’t change little things…

I’ll be working on getting more of the content from the old augiewan.com moved over to this layout.  Then I can start getting use to the idea of posting on a regular basis and wow you all with my incessant babbling.

It’s early in the re-design process so I’m really not sure how this will turn out.  In the meantime, throw me suggestion if want.  I’m (obviously) using WordPress, so if you’ve got plugin or widget suggestions I’d love to hear from you too.

For now, enjoy taking a look through the invader zim sculptures, my first attempts at coloring with Copic markers, and other goofy comic art I’ve posted on my ComicSpace account…

Stinky Ugly!

Ugh… Don’t look yet!

I’ve just set this blog up with my host. I had taken one stab at blogging a few years back and got a staggering three entries posted. I’ve pasted them here as a “starter ” for anyone who actually finds this site. woohoo!

I’ve got to figure out how to change the design and images a tad. Must make better!!!
